66 Days of Daily Writing: A Journey of Growth and Connection

Written on

Chapter 1: The Conclusion of an Incredible Journey

Day 66 marks the conclusion of my daily writing adventure on Medium. Over the course of these 66 days, I have published a total of 74 articles. However, this milestone doesn’t feel like an endpoint; rather, it's just the beginning of my ongoing writing journey. I plan to keep writing daily for as long as I can. The act of consistently generating ideas and committing them to paper has become something I genuinely enjoy.

The challenge known as 66Write has played a pivotal role in pushing me to this point. For years, I have harbored a desire to write but was uncertain how to proceed. When Eve Arnold introduced the 66Write challenge, I instantly felt compelled to join. Despite my busy schedule, the challenge seemed perfectly tailored for me. I was confident I would see it through, and indeed, I have.

Thanks to Eve for her vision, unwavering commitment to writing, and encouragement towards aspiring writers.

Section 1.1: A Look at the Statistics

While I’ve grown weary of sharing statistics, I recognize their significance in marking this journey's conclusion. Over the past two months, I've decided to summarize the key metrics from the last 60 days, comparing the first half with the second.

From April 27th to May 26th:

  • Reads: 1,978
  • Fans: 667
  • New email subscribers: 4
  • Earnings (May): $22.85

From May 27th to June 25th:

  • Reads: 4,811
  • Fans: 727
  • New email subscribers: 4
  • Earnings (June 1st to now): $208.76

As June's earnings surpassed $100, I made a heartfelt decision. My wife suffers from chronic fatigue and requires rest each afternoon. With our limited finances, I chose to use my writing income to secure some private medical care for her, which I anticipate will cost around £180-£200. Thankfully, it looks like June's earnings will cover this expense.

Subsection 1.1.1: Building Connections

Writers coming together in a supportive community

Beyond the statistics and financial aspects, 66Write has brought joy and challenges. The most rewarding aspect has been the chance to connect with new people and become part of a vibrant community of writers. A shoutout to those who have journeyed alongside me: Tariq Abdul-Rasheed, Chris Smith, Jamie Northrup, Kate Corbyn, Gisele Grenier, Sawyer Kuhl, and Mark Thompson. Congratulations on completing the challenge!

I wish we could celebrate our achievements together in person. I hope we all continue to write regularly, if not daily. Special thanks to TzeLin Sam, whose supportive comments on my articles encouraged me greatly throughout this 66-day experience.

Chapter 2: Looking Ahead

In life, the future remains uncertain. However, my plans for Medium are shaping up. Recently, I conducted a Twitter poll to gauge my next steps: should I take a break from daily writing or continue? Most respondents suggested a short break, and while that sounds appealing, I feel inclined to maintain my daily writing practice.

Although I no longer feel compelled to keep my 66Write streak going, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for writing and have no desire to stop—yet I acknowledge the possibility of a break. That’s the beauty of it, isn’t it? The freedom to choose.

See you tomorrow!
