Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

It all started with a single piece I penned in June of last year, marking just my second month of consistent posting on Medium. Initially self-published, this article eventually found a home in Illumination magazine, but it was the organic traction that captivated me—it racked up over 250 hours of reading time before any formal submission.

Interestingly, it only garnered 1,200 claps, a metric that can often mislead us. While claps may feel gratifying, they don't directly equate to financial success. The real challenge lies in attracting readers by crafting content that resonates.

They say relevance is key, but truthfully, we often navigate this path without a clear roadmap. Over the past 11 months, I’ve authored nearly 300 articles, most of which earned me a pittance—less than even the smallest monetary reward. Only this article and one other produced significant income.

If I could provide a step-by-step guide on how this success unfolded, I would, but it boils down to luck. The more you write, the higher the chances of creating something that aligns perfectly with current trends. Persistence and dedication often lead to increased fortune.

You might wonder why I’m sharing this. Is it for bragging rights? Partly. Is it to generate more income from another article? Absolutely. But primarily, I want to demonstrate that you can achieve this too. If I—someone who didn’t write a single word from the age of 16 until I began my journey on Medium at 38—can do it, so can you.

My approach may not suit everyone, but I have committed to writing and publishing daily until I reach a five-figure monthly income from my content. While I'm far from that goal now, I believe it’s attainable. It could take a year or even five, but I’m willing to be patient.

Medium is the platform I’ve chosen for this journey, and I encourage you to consider it as well. There’s room for everyone—good writers, bad writers, and those still finding their voice. If Medium can elevate writers of all skill levels, it surely serves a greater good, especially if we’re compensated along the way.
