How often do we find ourselves saying, "I’ll be happy when this happens"? If you’re anything like me, it happens quite frequently. Our minds often trick us into believing that true happiness lies just beyond our current circumstances—after we achieve that promotion, get married, or complete a project.

However, upon reaching these milestones, we often discover that happiness was never there to begin with; it was merely a mirage crafted by our minds. Despite this deception, we continue to rely on our thoughts as our primary guides through life, never learning from the experience.

As we age, our minds tend to shift focus, reminiscing about the past instead of looking forward. Conversations with the elderly often revolve around their past glories, achievements, and amusing tales from their youth. We find ourselves living in a cycle—first fixating on the future, then dwelling on the past.

But what about living in the present?

It seems that our minds struggle to engage with the "now." When confronted with a simple rose, for instance, there’s nothing to think about other than the flower itself. Consequently, our minds drift to either the past or the future to stay occupied.

This tendency becomes apparent during sports; in the heat of the moment, we often find our minds quieting down. To perform at our best, we need to be fully present, which is why many people use sports as a mental escape from daily life—allowing their minds to rest from incessant overthinking.

Now, how can we change this pattern?

Section 1.1: Acknowledging Our Thoughts

Don’t place blind faith in your mind. If you find yourself unhappy, consider who has guided you to this point. It’s likely your own thoughts!

Take a moment to jot down your thoughts for just ten minutes. You might be shocked at the chaos swirling within. If a madman resides in your head, why follow his counsel unquestioningly?

Pause and reflect before acting on those thoughts!
