Mastering Vector Graphics Creation with Midjourney and TraceJourney
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to Vector Graphics
Vector graphics provide a flexible and scalable file format suitable for high-quality prints and adaptable web visuals. They are commonly utilized in various fields, including logo creation, illustrations, print media, web design, user interface design, mobile apps, animations, GIS mapping, architectural drawings, and signage.
While Midjourney excels at generating stunning images, it is limited to producing raster formats. Fortunately, a new AI tool named TraceJourney has emerged, specifically designed for converting pixel images into vector formats. As a Discord bot, TraceJourney simplifies the process of transforming your Midjourney creations into vector graphics without leaving the Discord platform.
Section 1.1: Getting Started with TraceJourney
To begin, access the TraceJourney app within Discord. Click here to navigate to the TraceJourney Discord server. Within the server, you’ll find a section labeled #video-tutorials, and you can also interact with the Midjourney Bot for image generation. Note that the TraceJourney Bot is exclusive to this server, so conversions must be performed here.
Subsection 1.1.1: Generating Your Image
Instead of using the #images channels, I prefer to generate my Midjourney images directly by messaging the Midjourney Bot. This approach helps keep my work separate from others.
When creating images in Midjourney, I recommend including “2D vector” in your prompt. This ensures that Midjourney recognizes your request for an illustration suitable for vector art. For instance, use a prompt like: "2D vector design of an astronaut for a t-shirt."
Section 1.2: Sending Your Image to TraceJourney
After generating and upscaling your image in Midjourney, right-click to access the tab options and select "Copy Link."
I prefer messaging Discord bots directly rather than using the #image channels. So, I send a message to the TraceJourney Bot, typing /URL to paste the link of my Midjourney image.
Section 1.3: Converting Your Image to Vector
TraceJourney will provide a selection of options. By clicking the 'Vectorize' button, the bot will transform your image into a vector graphic.
Final Steps: Downloading Your Vector Graphic
After the conversion, you can download your SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) file. This format is compatible with graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Sketch, or Inkscape.
Final Thoughts on Vector Graphics
Vector graphics, such as SVG files, eliminate resolution constraints, allowing you to create high-quality print materials or use them in web animations.
