Sam Harris Discusses UFOs: A Call to Prepare for Disclosure
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to UFO Discussions
Renowned neuroscientist and author Sam Harris has recently made significant remarks regarding UFOs during multiple podcasts. He claims that someone connected to the U.S. government has approached him to discuss how to prepare the public for the possibility that UFOs may indicate the presence of non-human intelligence.
Throughout my extensive career in journalism, I never anticipated writing such a statement. Yet, here we find ourselves, approaching the June 25 deadline for the Pentagon's report to Congress concerning Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). Many ufologists are tempering their expectations, speculating that the report might either be postponed or provide vague disclosures that will allow skeptics to dismiss the situation, thereby keeping the public in a state of ignorance that has persisted for decades.
Given Harris's recent declarations, I find myself reconsidering these expectations. For those unfamiliar, Harris has made a name for himself as a leading thinker on consciousness, akin to how Neil deGrasse Tyson is recognized in the fields of astronomy and cosmology. His first book, "End of Faith," became a bestseller and was on the New York Times list for 33 weeks. He launched his podcast, initially titled "Waking Up," in late 2013, which has since been renamed "Making Sense." He recently released his 252nd episode, showcasing his enduring influence. Despite controversies surrounding his political views, Harris remains articulate and deliberate in his speech.
Section 1.1: The Conversation with Lex Fridman
On May 20, during a lengthy discussion on the Lex Fridman podcast, Harris touched upon the topic of UFOs while exploring themes of consciousness and artificial intelligence. He posited that scientific truths should ultimately captivate us, saying, "Whatever is true ultimately should be captivating, right? What’s more captivating than whatever is real?" He acknowledged recent rumors suggesting that discussions about UFOs are likely to evolve soon.
Harris stated:
"I’ve received some private outreach, and perhaps you have, I know other people in our orbit have, people who are claiming that the government has known much more about UFOs than they have let on until now. This conversation is actually about to become more prominent..."
He emphasized the potential implications of a forthcoming government disclosure regarding technology of non-human origin, which could fundamentally alter public understanding.
Section 1.2: Insights from the Absolutely Mental Podcast
In a later podcast episode with comedian Ricky Gervais, Harris hinted at a possible Zoom meeting with former intelligence officials who are concerned about how to communicate UFO information to the public. He remarked:
"This is probably premature to even talk about this, but I’ve had someone reach out to me and has assured me that I’m going to be on a Zoom call with, you know, former heads of the CIA and Office of Naval Research..."
Harris suggested that the upcoming disclosure might be either alarming or fascinating, but it would likely challenge the comfort of scientific skeptics.
Chapter 2: Preparing for the Unknown
In his "Making Sense" podcast, Harris again reiterated the need for preparation. He mentioned being warned about a significant shift in understanding regarding UFOs, stating:
"I got contacted by somebody who gave me a heads up with respect to all of this happening, and he more or less told me, ‘Listen, when this other shoe drops, you’re going to be in the position of having to acknowledge that we’re in the presence of alien technology...'"
His message is clear: scientists and skeptics may soon need to address the reality of potential alien technology, which could demand a reconsideration of long-held beliefs and public narratives.
The implications of these discussions are profound. If the U.S. government perceives UAPs as potentially non-human, it raises critical questions about transparency and communication with the public. Harris's insights suggest that we are on the brink of a paradigm shift that could reshape our understanding of the universe.
