# What’s Inside My Tech Backpack: A 2022 Update on My Everyday Carry
Written on
Chapter 1: Reflecting on My Tech Backpack Journey
It's been quite some time since I last shared the contents of my tech backpack—nearly two years, to be exact. Back then, I was navigating university life, and now, so much has changed. This seemed like the perfect moment to update you on what's in my backpack today.
You might be curious as to why I'm sharing the items I carry daily. Lately, I've become quite enamored with videos showcasing everyday carry (EDC) essentials, particularly those that focus on tech gear. There's something captivating about these videos; they spark my interest and introduce me to gadgets that enhance daily life. This type of content allows us to uncover new tools we might not even realize we need.
While this isn't a classic EDC post, it shares similarities since I take my backpack with me to work every day. I previously created an EDC video, which you can find linked here.
Section 1.1: A Look Back at My University Days
The last time I documented the contents of my backpack, I was still a student pursuing my undergraduate degree in computing. Much of what I carried then was closely tied to my studies. For those interested, you can view the video from two years ago below.
Fast forward to today; it’s clear that a lot has changed since that January 2020 video. Back then, I was gearing up for my dissertation amidst the stress of impending exams, little knowing a pandemic was on the horizon. The closure of universities forced me to adapt to remote learning, altering my study habits significantly. Sadly, it's now 2022, and the pandemic still affects us, with ongoing lockdowns. Nevertheless, it's crucial to focus on living life to its fullest despite these challenges.
Due to the pandemic, I transitioned to pursuing a master's degree in computer science through an online program at Staffordshire University. This decision was driven by the difficulty of securing a graduate position during such uncertain times.
Section 1.2: My Current Setup
Now, in 2022, I've completed two degrees and landed a full-time job that I truly enjoy. I work as an IT analyst, primarily in customer service, where I troubleshoot and resolve IT issues. Consequently, many items in my backpack are work-related. I recently uploaded a video showcasing my everyday backpack, which you can view here.
One of my go-to bags is the Lenovo Commuter Backpack. It's robust, functional, and spacious, making it perfect for carrying my essentials. Lenovo has designed this bag to accommodate various needs, including an expandable feature that allows me to carry additional equipment or even shop after work. Made from waterproof material, it also includes a compartment for wet items, making it ideal for unpredictable weather. Given the distance from my office, I often cycle or use public transport, making this backpack my perfect companion for those commutes.
Chapter 2: The Essentials in My Tech Backpack
Section 2.1: My Laptop Evolution
If you had asked me two years ago about my primary laptop, I would have mentioned the HP Pavilion 14-CE0505SA, my reliable student laptop. It served me well during my programming courses, allowing me to troubleshoot issues easily. However, my daily driver has since evolved into the iPad Pro (2020 edition), which I cannot recommend highly enough. For work tasks, I use the Dell Latitude 5420, an exceptional laptop for all my professional needs.
Section 2.2: Headphones for Every Occasion
When it comes to headphones, I used to rely on the AirPods Pro for daily use due to their convenience and portability. However, for commuting and work, I've switched to the Microsoft Surface Headphones 2, which I discovered through Ali Abdaal. I was pleasantly surprised by their quality compared to more established brands like Sony and JBL. They provide excellent active noise cancellation, making them ideal for both commuting and conference calls.
Section 2.3: Essential Tools and Accessories
Given the unpredictable weather where I live, I always carry an umbrella with me. My current favorite is the Xiaomi upside-down umbrella, which has proven to be both sturdy and practical. For charging, I have two power banks: an Anker 5K magnetic power bank for my iPhone 12 and a Green Cell GC PRIME 10000mAh for other devices. Both power banks are invaluable, especially during long days out.
I'm also not a fan of touchpads, so I always have my Logitech MX Anywhere 2 mouse at hand. Despite its age, it's still my go-to for productivity, offering features like side-scroll and hyper-scroll, which I also enjoy on my Logitech MX Master 3.
In my toolkit, the iFixit Minnow kit stands out as a high-quality precision screwdriver set, complete with a SIM eject tool hidden in the handle. I also carry a few other essential items like a bottle, body spray, Apple Cloth, and various cables. For a comprehensive list, check out my Kit.co page linked below.
