Keep Your Aspirations to Yourself: A Guide to Success

Written on

Chapter 1: The Importance of Secrecy in Your Goals

It's crucial to keep your aspirations, ambitions, and plans to yourself. Limit your disclosures to only those who absolutely need to know—this might even include your partner until it becomes necessary.

Conduct your research discreetly and make your moves without drawing attention.

Why is this approach advisable? Think about the times you've shared something you were excited about, only to feel deflated when someone dismissed your idea or dream. Perhaps someone you respected trivialized your ambitions, calling them mere hobbies. Or maybe you were striving to find a way out of an unfulfilling job, only to hear someone declare it unfeasible.

Such negativity can severely hinder your creativity and motivation to achieve your goals.

While the individuals who express such doubts may not intend harm, it's vital to understand that your subconscious does not differentiate between well-meaning advice and cynical remarks. It simply records everything as truth. Consequently, if you constantly feed yourself negative thoughts, your mind will accept them as reality, adversely affecting your aspirations.

The average individual remains average because they succumb to the same pessimistic ideas that encourage playing it safe.

Instead, take action and prove the naysayers wrong. Advance confidently and celebrate your achievements after reaching your goals. Yes, there is a risk of failure, but the only guaranteed failure comes from inaction.

This isn't to suggest you shouldn't seek out information or sound advice. It's wise to obtain multiple perspectives and consult knowledgeable individuals while remaining cautious about revealing too much. Experts can sometimes become entrenched in their beliefs, failing to see beyond conventional wisdom. However, innovators like Einstein or Tesla often disrupt established norms. Engage experts with inquiries, but maintain discretion about your plans.

Just because someone is close to you doesn’t imply they possess expertise or wisdom. Even intelligent individuals can exhibit negativity, possibly due to their own insecurities. They may not want you to succeed because it could compel them to improve themselves or create distance between you. For instance, how many children have faced setbacks because a parent feared their departure from the family unit?

Negative influences can undermine your efforts in subtle ways. They might not openly criticize you, but their body language or indirect comments can convey disapproval. Even the thoughts and prayers of others regarding your endeavors can impact your progress, often without your awareness.

Certain individuals don’t need to be informed about your plans. While your partner deserves inclusion, ensure they don’t discourage you out of unwarranted fear. You understand your partner's temperament; help them feel secure while shielding your ambitions from unnecessary doubt.

Trust me when I say this: keep your plans private until absolutely necessary, or until it's too late for anyone to intervene. This simple practice has provided me with peace of mind and allowed me to succeed—or fail—based solely on my efforts. The embarrassment of public failure can be excruciating, even when surrounded by loved ones. When you keep your pursuits under wraps, you can stumble as often as needed without the weight of public scrutiny.

So remember: tell no one. Just take action.
