Chapter 1: Introduction to MidJourney
The advancements in artificial intelligence never cease to amaze me, especially in the realm of image generation. With MidJourney, you can create unique images tailored to your needs—all generated through AI!
If you explore the MidJourney community showcase, you'll find a plethora of AI-generated images. You can even hover over them to discover the prompts used for their creation.
Chapter 1.1: Joining the MidJourney Community
My journey began when I decided to join MidJourney. After clicking the "Join the beta" button and completing the sign-up process, I found myself on a Discord server ready to dive in.
In the server, new users are guided to a dedicated channel where they receive brief instructions on generating images. By utilizing the /imagine command, you simply enter your prompt, and the AI handles the rest.
Section 1.1.1: Understanding the /imagine Command
The /imagine command allows you to use any web-accessible image as a reference for generation. Additionally, the text prompt specifies what you want the AI to create. MidJourney provides a helpful document filled with tips and tricks for effective prompts.
Section 1.2: Experimenting with Prompts
To kick things off, I decided to have some fun and typed in the following prompt:
/imagine kawaii doughnut sticker --ar 16:9 --video
This command generates a behind-the-scenes video of the AI's creative process.
I was particularly fond of the second image and requested variations by clicking the V2 button. The AI went to work, and I recorded the variations it produced.
I ultimately selected the last image and opted to upscale it (U4), resulting in the final doughnut design.
Chapter 2: Customizing Your Experience
MidJourney offers several useful options to tailor your image generation:
- --ar 16:9: This maintains a pleasing 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the default square.
- --video: This saves a video of the AI's generation process.
- Quality Options: The higher the quality value (0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, or 5), the longer the image generation takes.
If you frequently use a set of options, you can set them as defaults using the command:
/prefer option suffix --ar 16:9 --video
Chapter 2.1: Retrieving Your Video
When you utilize the --video option, remember to react with an envelope emoji. This action prompts a direct message containing the link to your generated video.
Chapter 3: Creative Possibilities with AI
One more image request came from my child: a "Kawaii Cat Fairy Floss." I'm unsure how long this would take a professional artist, but I had it completed in about five minutes! Most of that time was spent selecting the right text and deciding which images to create variations for before upscaling.
