Creating Hydrogen and Oxygen Through Electrolysis: Day 17 Update

Chapter 1: Reflections on Isolation
It's Day 17 of our viral lockdown here in Dimondale, Michigan. The day brings a mix of emotions, especially as I’m reminded of the pranks that accompany April Fools' Day. While some jokes can be harmless, I can't help but recall the tragic tsunami that claimed nearly 200 lives on April 1, leading many to dismiss emergency alerts as mere jokes. Misinformation can have dire consequences, and it's crucial we seek the truth.
In lighter news, I stumbled upon a humorous piece about Generation X that resonated deeply with me. Our generation has often found itself bored, and this current situation is nothing new. I feel a sense of pity for those who rely on their gadgets to fill every spare moment. But here’s your opportunity! A familiar mantra from my generation comes to mind: “Just do it.” There's no better time than now to engage in activities you've always wanted to try, especially since going out isn’t really an option.
Stay indoors!
Consider picking up a long-desired hobby. Start a blog! Learn to play an instrument. Cook a meal using fresh ingredients instead of pre-packaged items. Try your hand at gardening, climb a tree, or capture images of the peculiar sights around you. Build Rube Goldberg machines! Just find a way to creatively occupy your time. The goal is to remain indoors for a few more weeks! If I hear you've ventured out, I’ll push your return timeline back. “At least two more weeks until I see that person!” Honestly, I could do this forever—social interaction isn’t my forte.
Yesterday, I dedicated about three hours to constructing a device for electrolysis, as illustrated in the image below. This contraption separates oxygen and hydrogen from water. Who knows when having these two highly reactive gases might come in handy? After all, one of them is essential for life! Just be sure to handle them carefully—safety first.
I won't be sharing my design, as there are superior versions available elsewhere. I simply wanted to use materials I had on hand. I enjoy the thrill of improvisation! Perhaps this period of isolation will help you discover a sense of self-sufficiency you never realized you possessed. Regardless, we’re all on the brink of uncovering new skills before the outside world changes drastically. Stay safe, and remember to be discerning about the information you consume. Don’t let the foolish lead you astray. #blackouttrump
